Most previous research works have emphasized the thematic preoccupations and styles of writers leaving the conceptual properties of many texts untapped. In this article, therefore, we intend to carry out an ideological reading of selected African literary works with a view to investigating the role of literature in solving the problems of bad governance particularly in Africa. With the application of textual analysis as methodology and Marxist theory as theoretical framework, the article concludes that literature has the potential to bring about social reformation, transformation and expected advancement.
