Abstract

Microemulsions are steady mixtures of both water and oil that have an interfacial coating produced by a surfactant and a co-surfactant that organizes hydrophilic-hydrophobic micelles. Due to their capacity to solubilize both hydrophilic and lipophilic medicines, prolonged shelf life, simplicity of manufacture, and enhanced bioavailability, they have attracted interest as pharmaceutical excipients. This study discusses the benefits, drawbacks, principles, compositions, commercial lipid-based preparations, formulation, phase behaviors, techniques, description, and pharmaceutical uses of microemulsions.
