Abstract

The aim of this study was the investigation of the available method for the extraction of phenolic compounds from Lamium amplexicaule -plant of the Lamiaceae family, widespread in Algeria and North Africa. The aerials parts of the plant were collected during Mars 2018 from Djemila Wilaya of Setif (Algeria). Ethanolic extracts were obtained by maceration and Soxhlet apparatus. Phytochemical composition was determined by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method. Results demonstrate that the major compound in both extracts was chlorogenic acid. However, 18 compounds were identified in the extract obtained by Soxhlet and 17 in that obtained by maceration. These constituents were quantified, and the Soxhlet extract had higher concentrations than the maceration extract did. It follows that the Soxhlet extraction is superior to the maceration extraction for L. amplexicaule. Further studies are necessary to identify the biological roles of individual compounds of extracts and other biological properties of this plant.
